Research Objectives

OTOSiS has the following two key objectives:

  1. To provide network resource management layers with reliable physical layer metrics describing the overhead-throughput-latency tradeoff.
  2. To develop physical layer signaling schemes that optimally trade overhead, throughput, and latency.

As a result, OTOSiS will contribute to the development of next generation European high-speed mobile network infrastructure by providing system designers with tools that will assist them in performing global wireless network optimization and thereby achieving unprecedented throughput and energy efficiency. OTOSiS adresses the following technology priorities, which are crucial to achieve the targets of the Digital Agenda for Europe of Horizon 2020:

  1. Next generation heterogeneous wireless and mobile broadband systems, based on flexible spectrum usage and reduced EMF radiation and interference.
  2. High throughput low-latency infrastructures, based on dynamic hybrid wireless and cable networks. In the following, we explain in more detail how OTOSiS contributes to the above technical priorities.
